It might be worth your while to take a vacation down this way. You can stay at Pipestem State Park for reasonable rates. Or find and contact a local realtor to look for you.
citygrl707,

There are plenty of places to rent. Try the trading journal. These are small towns and a lot of time people use word of mouth. It helps to get to know someone.
For the market, it is just not wise or profitable to rent houses in West Virginia.
Most landlords will sell the house to a renter on a "Land Contract". The renter/buyer then pays all the taxes and is responsible for the upkeep.
If he gets behind on the rent/payment the foreclosure takes care of business.
In our zoned counties, rentals carry a double taxation and other extra fees.
The money is in multiple units that cater to HUD or College kids. Both renters will trash the apartments in time and the high rent or government rehab money will pay for the upgrade/damages. This is rarely seen on single family dwellings...the exception being damage compensated by insurance.
A niche is needed to fill this gap in the market, but all in all, its a money loser.
Hey, I'll put in my plug for Elkins. We only need to rent until we can buy something. For now we are livin' in the hobo horse trailer!!
