One additional thing has me concerned... what is the percentage on vehicles??? I went to the NADA website and plugged in the specs on my Saturn and his Dodge. The Saturn is worth around $5000 (high mileage), and the Truck looks to be worth around $15000.

In a previous post, snorpus said that the personal property tax on vehicles was 5% (or so he thought)... that would be $1000 in taxes!!! That doesn't make sense if it is a yearly tax!!!

It's not 5% annually.

However when you go to DMV, they WILL charge you a flat 5% tax on the vehicle. That's what was so contentious in the Panhandle. People moving in from out of state who recently bought a new car paid a sales tax in the state they resided when they bought it, and then when you come over to WV and register that same vehicle, you got WHACKED again for 5% of the vehicles value.

Some people wouldn't register their vehicles for months or years while those that did started to fume over those who were trying to wiggle out of it...

I'll see if I can dig up the PP rate for you...

Maryland does that too. Thanks for the effort.

They did away with that 5% for newly registered vehicles if you register it before the 30 days and I had to go to the assessors office to get a paper stating that we were new to the county.

Yeah the PP rate would be nice because I have been wondering what we were going to get hit with and also if and when we get a new vehicle how that would factor in.

Berkeley County Assesors office- assessor (broken link)

PP is Class I, so defer to the schedule 1, 2007.

For example (Janipoo)- if you are rural, not in a town, you will pay .5528 per $100 assesed value. Let's say you have $20,000 worth of personal property, so that's $110.56 in tax due.

Okay, well thats not too bad. I looked up our cars and it shouldn't be too bad even though I thought mine was a little high, atleast I didn't know that I could still get that for a trade in.

Can't find Jefferson County on-line, but here us a link to the county commission. (Which, by the way, doesn't surprise me- good luck calling)
