Due to the weather forecast for this week in this region, I want to ask questions about installing a generator. I know money will be involved to a certain degree. From what I gathered, it costs a lot to buy and install one. I have been saving up a few hundreds, and can put together some more with my family.
I want to know who should I call for this? Who is good in the area for installing? How long does it take to complete?
Does anyone here have good results with a generator?
First, where the heck are you? How can we help you find local dealers if we don't know if you're in Miami or Salt Lake City?
If your budget is denominated in hundreds, just pick up a 1 or 2 kw generac generator, a good outdoor extension cord and it a day. It takes more work to swap devices you’re using, but can keep important needs going. A cheap generator isn’t going to power your whole panel and having a sub panel installed with manual cutover for important circuits sounds like it will be out of budget. Plumbed fuel source and automatic cutover are certainly nice, but that’s a many thousands setup.
Whatever you do make sure the generator only runs outside and with good ventilation, many people have died from the exhaust, even in garages and eaves. Check in advance that you can you can access the refrigerator power cord - some installs make that very difficult.
He posted this thread in the Westchester county forum. If you found it by searching generators, no matter which thread you found, a little reading would have answered your question. Your question was aggressive and seemed to suggest it was wrong of the OP not to include his location, when he clearly did in both of his threads. I think what you mean to say is, "oh, my bad. In both of his threads he clearly identified the location and I probably jumped the gun in my comment." I don't think anyone cares that you made a very simple mistake. But why keep going on it? It not a biggie. I certainly do not care why you made a simple mistake. Its all good.
All good. But on this and many other forums, people don't or won't show their location when they register. Then they ask questions like, where can I find XXXXX around here. How could anyone answer when you don't know where the poster is located.
These days I have been traveling more than staying home, so I didn’t put my location where it says.
