Hi there,
My husband and I are considering a move to Westchester county from Manhattan. We have a active puppy which we currently put into dog daycare a couple of times per week and I was wondering if there was still the same range of services for dogs in Westchester county. A quick search has brought up a couple but they seem to be few and far between. The places that we were thinking about were Larchmont, Rye and Croton. I'd be grateful if anyone has any advice on this.
Thanks!
You may have already found this one, but near Croton is Canine Kindergarten Inc. (http://www.caninekindergarten.com/index.php - broken link) in Verplanck. As I don't currently own a dog, I can't comment about the quality of service there, though.
I am not sure how many Doggie Day Cares we have in Westchester, but I can tell you we have hundreds of Dog Sitters. Always check references, Before Hiring someone!
You have two types of sitters. Those that go to your house to take care of the pets and those that pick up or you drop off the pet at their house. When choosing this type, be sure to VISIT the home where the pets will be kept.
I simply don't know of doggy daycare in those towns. I know of one in Pleasantville. There is a Bark Park in Mount Kisco. (Thought there was one in White Plains as well, but can't find it).
I have had a dog for 14 years. I can say Westchester is crawling with dog walkers and sitters. The actual daycare center for dogs is new and is growing. There is a facility in White Plains and in Harrison I believe called Best Friends. The White Plains center is top notch. There is also one in Mamaroneck at the Veterinarians that I truly don't recommend. My dog really didn't do well there, despite this place being so crowded everyday.
If you DM me, I can give you an excellent reference for a dog walker in and around the Larchmont/Rye/New Rochelle/Mamaroneck/Harrison area. My dog loved her!! She also does special arrangements.
I don't remember the name, but there's one that's appeared the last couple of years in Ardsley. It's on the street in between the shopping center with Astoria Federal Bank and the library.
