It was just one flood-prone area south of town near the banks of the Mud Creek. Thunderstorms early Tuesday brought close to 5 inches of rain. Average rainfall over a 30-year period for the entire month of September is 4.58". Highly unusual to get a month's worth of rain in one day.
Actually, in the past few years there have been some pretty severe floods in the H'ville area. They are confined mainly to wooded and pasture lands but do cause some closing of low lying roads.
The most "famous" area for some road flooding is at the intersection of Rt. 225S and White St. near the Fresh Market. The city has pretty much taken care of the problem and after the last gully washer it did not flood. There is no flooding problem in Hendersonville, and much less to be concerned about than other areas here in the mountains. Water runs downhill, and some of the heavy rain we had here over the summer was unusual. Never a problem getting around since I've been here in Hendersonville 9 yrs. mm34b's post in 2006 is correct.

Over the years I've seen extensive flooding at the corner of Dana Road and Tracey Grove Road. However, it seems that the city has done some work there and it's not been nearly as bad .... but as some have posted it's still possible.
That area down at the Fresh Market has been a bad place too in the past. But again, I think the city did a pretty good job of getting it fixed.
Also, doesn't that road that runs down behind Blue Ridge Community College (can't remember the name for the life of me) have some areas of flooding typically?
Oh, and Butler Bridge Road (in Henderson County) floods out something fierce when we've had lots of rain.
True, the city and county have done some work on alleviating some of the flooding; we are supposed to get some heavy rain and wind tomorrow I hear. Good day to sit home and read a book by the fireplace if you don't have to venture out.
