My boyfriend and I are thinking about moving somewhere in WNC. We both enjoy snowboarding, camping, hiking, anything outdoors. We are in our early 20s and I'll still be in school when we move, so need an area that I can continue taking classes for Medical Office Administration. He is a mechanic. We would probably be looking for something to rent when we first make the move but nowhere expensive. Probably looking to rent a place for about $700 max/ month. We would love to rent a house but at least a 2 bedroom apartment would do. If you have any suggestions of areas that I should look into more I would greatly appreciate it. We were originally thinking Boone, but I'm not so sure we can afford it. Thanks for any help.

If you were originally thinking Boone, then I would look at The Mountain Times classifieds for rentals The Mountain Times - Classifieds. They have apartments/duplexes, condos, houses, etc. listed under Real Estate Rentals. I believe you can find an apartment in your price range at some of the apartments near ASU (Appalachian State University).

Default More Questions?

-What are some other areas that are in driving distance of Boone that would be reasonably priced?

-What about pets? Boyfriend and I were thinking about getting a dog but most of the places I looked at in Mountain Times didn't accept pets. Is Boone a pet friendly place? We were thinking we would be able to take it camping and hiking with us but is it allowed?

-Also, I keep hearing that Boone gets the most snow. I have a Scion TC, what do most people drive up there? I'm not sure my car would be able to handle the snow and mountains

-I think we're going to drive up to Boone this Sunday, but we wont be able to stay the night. What should be definitely do? Where is the Welcome Center and would places even be open on Sunday?

Thanks.

It sure sounds like you need a place with a community college, not a university, to continue your education? If so, you may want to reconsider living in the Boone area and instead look at Hickory. Here is a link for the state's community colleges to help you identify ones you may be interested in:
Find Your Community College (http://www.ncccs.cc.nc.us/colleges_map.aspx - broken link)

Plus, Hickory would be more affordable but with easy access to all the outdoor stuff you are looking to be able to do.
