If it hasn't been mentioned, Skin Glide. I put this all over my feet and never have blisters. Good shoes and socks can prevent blisters too, but skin glide works great.
A tube of Skin Glide (or even a stick of Body glide) at sports authority or Dicks is $10...your ebay post says thats $13. But I've heard of that stuff and it's supposed to be good too.
I've put together most of the stuff that's been covered in the thread; some really good ideas in here. I was at REI and was looking at some of the hiking packs, but they are a little outrageous. Some smaller packs are going for 100 or more. I'll do some looking around and just use my backpack that I have now until I find something with a good price/performance balance.
