I hope you can find what you want and only move once. We really lucked out last Oct when we found our place. Moving once is hard, twice, no thank you. Do your homework on realtor.com
It's tough because if you do see a house you like, you have to schedule the time to come look at it and it may be gone by the time you can get here. I agree that renting may be the way to go.
When we were looking, we lived 4 hours away and I work during the week, so I had to schedule the trips for the weekends. I'd find a house I loved (based on the pictures and description) and by the time I could get here a week or two later, they'd be under contract. One house went under contract right after we had done a drive by to see if it was where we wanted to be located, another went under contract the day we were driving up.
Fortunately we did find the right house and we love it and our location, but it was a frustrating search.
I appreciate all of the input so much. Since we aren't working we can get up there on pretty short notice but, yeah, I know houses are going fast. It discourages me a bit but we need to just keep our eye on the goal and keep moving forward.
