Smile Asheville NC

Hi, my husband and I would like to spend a few days in Asheville NC since we have never been there. Is it worth the trip? We like to spend our time outdoors, going for walks, hikes, golfing etc. We also like to dine in nice restaurants (not chains). Can anybody please let me know if Asheville would be the right place for this kind of vacation? Thank you!

yes, yes and yes! Many wonderful hikes in the area, places to eat, views to enjoy There are also many cabin rentals around if you want more privacy and aren't into hotels.

Sure would. If you really want to live it up, stay at the Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa. It's been in operation since 1913.

Check out downtown - LOTS of great restaurants and cafes, none of them chains - you will love it!

nanannie - you are so right about Mellow Mushroom! My hubby and I LOVE it, we really feel like we are back in the 60's - even the clientele looks the part! And the pizza is to die for - we both agreed there is none better. They even occasionally have live music there, and a fantastic selection of beers. We love sitting outside under the wisteria-covered gazebo in summer.

Asheville is a great place for a vacation! As for restaurants check out Salsa's, Oliver and Annabelle's. They are both in downtown Asheville. You won't find a chain restaurant downtown. Salsa's is awesome though. Get there early!

Another vote for Salsas and try out Tupelo Honey Cafe, I heard Laughing Seed is a premier Vegetarian restaurant. There is a Thai restaurant at the Grove Arcade that is very good! So much to see! I love Black Mountain just down the road and Chimney Rock and Lake Lure are nice as well.
