Grandfather Mountain is a great place to visit! But my favorite part is actually the "backside trails" you can hike up it from the Blue Ridge Parkway.

You do have to pay an admission fee to enter, but this includes a great little "zoo" on site with wild animals such as bears. It is very nicely done. The trails are well maintained and some can be a bit heart stopping.

Our home is at the foot of the "backside" of Grandfather. The mountain is quite an icon for most of us who are passionate about the High Country. Whenever we drive back in from out of town, once I see Grandfather, I know I'm home.

If you plan to hike, most of the trails on Grandfather are quite rigorous... not a casual romp. Also, be prepared for more extreme weather the higher you go.

Of course, people of all fitness levels can enjoy much of what Grandfather has to offer by driving to the top from US 221. Grandfather is a true treasure. Enjoy!

I have been to Grand Father Mountain, it is BEAUTIFUL!!! You must see it to appreciate it. It's great to see animals with so much room to roam around.

Maybe that out of state family connection for Indica or Sativa, gives that effect?

My sister lives half the year in a city close to Grandfather Mountain, and they often visit there when they have music programs and theatre.

NW NC is a fantastic place that time has almost forgot. My sister runs into "mountain folks" when they're out shopping. They live back in the hollows and come out to go to Walmart for a little shopping. The average income there is about as low as there is in NC.

The area has the highest ski resorts in the eastern U.S., and a number of condo neighborhoods. They also have 10 story condos on top of the mountains--beautiful views.

I could live there very easily.
