I refuse to be a part of a team. And when everyone is responsible for completing their own work, you can accurately gauge who should be retained and who should be removed.
It is a better system than having the better, more productive workers doing work that isn't their responsibility, and having the slackers get the credit for completing it.
That is fine, as long as you are OK knowing you are causing your company to not do as well, and you are making yourself and those around you do a worse job because of your selfish, self-centered attitude.
A well run team ALWAYS does better than a collection of individuals working independently. People with such a selfish attitude typically think they are 'the best' in a company, however never really contribute as much as everyone else who actually works together.

You mean to say that by working together we can accomplish greater tasks than we could be working independently to satisfy our own selfish desires? That sounds a lot like socialism!

Sorry, but the coworkers that are worth a d*mn already do a fine job on their own. And the ones that aren't should be removed. I'm not the best--there is one other guy who is more productive--but I'm up there.

In whose opinion? Yours? Everyone thinks they are the best, not everyone really is.

No, I do not think I'm the best.
And the only people whose opinion about the quality of my work matters are the people who give me my review. They don't care about how safe I work, but how productive I am. They are my supervisors. And they have told me I'm the second most productive worker, and given who the most productive person is, I have to agree, he's more productive. But he uses machines to do his job, and I don't.

I can't believe you are arguing this.
Who could make 25 cars faster, from start to finish? You (and 24 other people) individually, or 25 people working in an assembly line?
Doesn't matter, that isn't the kind of work that I do. I do not work in a team environment, each of us are responsible for our portion of the work, and ours alone.
At my last job I allowed myself to be "the quiet guy" at work and hated it. I was one of the youngest in the office and there was only 1 other person in my age range. She wasn't too outgoing and could sit silent at her computer for hours. I never really made an effort to break out of my shell and just became the quiet guy. Lack of conversation and friendships in the office made me paranoid and wonder if people were talking about me or if my position was going to be replaced.
At previous jobs I developed many friendships and was really liked at the office. Having friendships and social interaction made me look forward to going to work. I work better when I have friends and good relationships with people in the office
Friends in general are just more trouble than they are worth. You can't ever do something on your own without taking into account your friend.
Want to go see a new movie on opening night? Nope, you'll get grief about "why did you see that movie without me? I know you wanted to see it this weekend but I was busy, and I wanted to see it with youuuu!"
Want to go to dinner? You need to deal with your friend's issues "I don't want Mexican, I had that for lunch. Sorry, Chinese upsets my stomach. Ugh, steak is just too heavy. Naw that restaruaunt is too loud."
Heading out to a club? Better not want to stay if your friend want's to leave. Or leave if your friend want's to stay. How about finding a ride home if your friend hooks up with a stranger? Maybe the club isn;t to your taste and you want to go somewhere else? Forget it if your friend is having a good time and doesn't want to leave!
You have to keep up with birthdays, and be there when they break up with their partner, and be freindly to their new love. You have to listen to them ***** about work. You have to take care of pets and plants when they go on vacation.
I just want to live my own life, and not have to deal with the drama. I want to do WHAT I want, WHEN iI want, WHERE I want to do it, and HOW I want it done.
Friends are just too much trouble.
