some people suggested to take it off of the resume but if i do that i have a gap...no i am not managing like that i go to houses, any more suggestion to put something else on cover letter and resume? thanks.
I always list any jobs I have done on the side. I used to do in home care for elderly folks, so when I include that, I have no gaps. I also list some of the family members as references, and my current employer did give them a call. I don't think it hurts to list side jobs or self employment gigs. Even if the jobs are completely unrelated, at least it shows you are motivated and can learn to function in different roles. Employers these days want flexibility and someone with the ability to learn new things, since the job market has been evolving so rapidly.

you said you list some of your family members as references, but they usually ask for professional references.
A headhunter once told me to create a functional resume which highlights skills and experience for the field you're targeting, so health care admin in your case. Chronological would include all jobs including hairdressing and I don't think that will help you secure a job in your target field.
"Chronological would include all jobs including hairdressing and I don't think that will help you secure a job in your target field." what do you mean? if i put hairdressing than i wouldn't get a job? should i use my functional resume? please clear it for me thank you.
When you first upload your resume on websites like CB and monster you'll get a lot of calls from companies all over the country. even jobs that have nothing to do with your field. eventually your resume drops to the bottom of the 'list' and doesn't get much (if any) notice from employers/staffing companies.
like the user above me said you need to start applying to jobs using indeed.com and simplyhired, etc.
1.i was told if i update my resume on careerbuilder everyday i would get more calls, like delete a sentence and put it back on. should i do the same for monster, indeed etc?

Functional resume highlights your skills instead of just showing a time line of all your jobs. If let's say you've done hairdressing for 5 years and have 6 months of health admin experience, then you want to minimize the attention on the fact you have little experience in your target field, but instead highlight transferable skills. It's a good way to transition into another career by summarizing the skills you bring to the table more than just listing all the jobs you've done, the dates etc. Try googling chronological resume for some samples (search by image, click on the results and you'll be taken to the web sites that describe this style).

1.I have been in the health field for 11 years, so on my resume I have all the healtfield jobs listed and now I put the hairdressing. Do I still use the functional or the other type of resume which explaining what I did at each job?
2. Also, my friend suggested me not to put self employed, just put the name of the barber shop I work for and after my title put" temporary job in lien of obtaining position in medical field". What do you think?
