He mixed up his schedule with Tuesday and Wednesday. He was scheduled for 7-10 on Tuesday and 12:30-4:30 on Wednesday. He accidentally wrote down 7-10 for Wednesday as well. He showed up "on time" at 6:50 on Wednesday. Well the manager told him that she would have to talk to the team leader and sent him home, and told him not to come back until they call him. Well the team leader called him in today to terminate him.

It was an honest mistake, he had never ever had attendance problems, always on time, good employee. Why would they let him go for one little mistake?

Is that right?

No, that is stupid. I messed up a retail schedule like that when I worked at Barnes & Noble. They had me scheduled for 7-11. Since it didn't open til 8:30am, I assumed they went 7pm til close. They called me when I didn't show at 8am. It an actual shift.

Honest mistake. If they can't deal, I say screw them and find another job. Who would want to work for someone so petty anyway? *******s!!

Who did HIS work during his CORRECT shift, Wednesday? Managers need a full crew, while it may have been honest, the harm to the workflow is still there.

Every company is going to handle stuff like this differently. He made a mistake and got fired. They are within their right, so it's best to just move forward.

It's an honest mistake, but it's still a mistake that he made, not anyone else. Grown ups have to accept the consequences of their actions, even if their actions weren't intentional. It's a lesson learned--I'm sure he'll be more careful next time.

One of the reasons Target is so anti-union. They want to fire anyone for anything anytime, pay low low wages, and reduce employee hours whenever they like. They're no better than Wal-Mart. Although Wally World probably sells more American made stuff than Target. I don't think Target sells a product that doesn't carry a Made in China label.

The unions are coming. The unions are coming. Like Wal-Mart before it, Target becomes villain - Business - Consumer news - Retail - msnbc.com

Yes, not showing up to work can have that effect.

Why would they let him go? It's retail. Any monkey can do the job. Most retail operates on the insane side of draconian. They do that to keep workers motivated. I mean aside from fear what else is going to motivate someone to keep their job performance up at Target? Obviously not the pay or the rewarding experience of being a good Target employee. The good news is retail has high turn over. It shouldn't be that hard to find another retail job.

Most employers will fire a person for job abandonment if they do not show up for work and do not call in, first offense. If you are going to be late, off sick, miss your bus, or whatever, you have to at least call. Regardless of the reason, this is clearly grounds for firing.
