Sorry, if this has already been asked, I hadn't been able to find a thread for it.

My husband and I want to move out of state, however, both of our jobs are locally based and are not part of a big chain which would allow us to just transfer to another state. Since no one in either of our families has moved out of state, we are unsure exactly how to go about looking for jobs. Is it just a matter of looking on Monster in the area we would like to move to or is there more to it?

Yeah, I get that it's kind of a seemingly dumb question to ask (it seems like the answer would be obvious, but it's not for us), but we really aren't sure how to go about it. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

What I did was go every Monday to a local news stand that sells the Sunday papers from every big city, and grab the one for the place I wanted to move to. Not only are there job ads, but home sales and rentals, and news about the area to become familiar with what's going on there. Then you can do online research to find out who the employers are there and visit their sites to search and apply for jobs. If you can line up a few interviews, get there and stay a week or more. Unfortunately with so many qualified local candidates for every job these days, not being there may put you at a disadvantage.

Seems like it would be hard to go interview in another state. Its very costly to travel not knowing if the job will pan out or not. Maybe it's not that big of a deal for you though.

Just go on-line and start applying for jobs. It's as simple as looking in your own metro.

But that doesn't provide an answer for looking out of state.

If you can simply take a day off of work and drive to where you want to live, or if you are unemployed, I suppose it is as simple as applying online and waiting to hear back like anywhere else.

If you are talking about moving somewhere that you need to fly to, I really have no idea.
