I just don't think it's coming from a good place. I feel like some people are more comfortable if you constantly stuck in a crappy position in life to make themselves feel better.
Ok, so what kinds of jobs are people recommending you take?

If I were broke and/or unemployed, there would be no such thing as a crappy job that is beneath me.

I don't get the op's attitude.

Are you kidding? It happens all the time. There are a lot of people who enjoy giving someone a kick when they're down to feel better about themselves.

The Germans even have a word for it "Schadenfreude"...taking pleasure in other people's misery.

And then there are just people who are very good at telling people what to do when they're not in your shoes. But wouldn't follow their own advice if they were in the same situation.

For example telling a parent whose child passed away a year ago that it's time to "move on", of course if it was their child it would be a different story.

Absolutely. I find myself shocked at just how frequently I read comments on stories about unemployment that are meant to kick people while they're down. Most of these attacks seem targeted at the younger, just-out-of-college crowd. At first glance they try and hide it by giving "advice," but you can almost picture them giving it in a snarky and smug tone. It reeks of bitterness.

As you are already employed, I would say to just focus on getting a good job rather than move into another crappy job. If you were unemployed and struggling, then I would definitely recommend a crappy job just to stay afloat. Since you have that cushion, it makes absolutely no sense to move on to another bad job. Also, as you currently have a job, it will be easier to find employment.

Many times when people suggest the worst of the worst for you, they don't want to see you doing well in life. Sometimes they feel more secure with their own miserable situation when the other person is doing just as bad as them.

I dealt with this a lot. The choices I wanted to make in my career made others feel uncomfortable because they didn't want to see me doing well. As I got older, I learned that I'm going to do what feels right for me and I had to cut those people out of my life or not tell them anything.

I think that's what the poster meant...

It doesn't make sense when you're already working a strenuous and crappy job to take ANOTHER strenuous and crappy that won't pay that much of a difference than your current job.

Well it's nice to see you doing so well financially...then again you probably wouldn't understand. It's always people who are comfortable sitting in their high chair always telling somebody what they should be doing.

That's what some people don't. If I was really picky...I wouldn't have this job that I'm working at right now. It's a seasonal job and it's retail and it involves a lot more labor than I thought I would.

pretty much!!
I had to end up working at mcdonalds because of a big downfall in life, and suddenly everyone is calling me to see how I'm doing and making sure I go to work everyday, but these same folks didn't give a **** about any other job that I have ever had.

I know people who have such little faith that when their daughter got a job, they called her every week. Their first words to her were are you still working?

What kind of person says that? Even if you're concerned, be encouraging. Beating down a person when they are having a bad time is just wrong.

And, yes, there are people who will give you lots of advice that they would never follow themselves, as Sean said above.

that's because in their eyes you have gone from a respectable human being to a stray animal that can't take care of itself. People will either "awww" at you or shoot you with a pellet gun.
