5 yrs is a stretch, most professional corporate type entry level jobs today require 1 or 2 yrs exp or a college internship at a minimum.

Even 1-2 years, how do you get two years of experience in something that requires experience to start? Even the most basic of administrative jobs require experience.

Experience in using custom software tailored specifically to this industry. To filling out forms specific to that industry. To generally working in that position. You can't work the position unless you've worked the position.

You can't even be a receptionist without experience as a receptionist.

Yes, I do. I got my current job having only worked part time for less than a year at my other office job, and 5 years in retail. I had barely any knowledge of computers, other than typing up school papers on them (didn't use a computer at my other office job), I knew nothing of email and internet either.

When did you get your current job? And where? Around here, the DC area, EVERYTHING requires experience. No such thing as coming in from the bottom.

I got it in late '97.

I do know around here NOW they ask for all sorts of experience, but 15 years ago they didn't. There was no question about me not having the experience.

Oh how times have changed................

its just the way it is right now, once more and more people get hired back then the entry level jobs will start going to the unexperienced recent grads again. right now there's so many unemployed people with 1-3 yrs exp that they r taking the lower paying entry level jobs just to get back in the game.

Our lowest paying job requires 3 years experience. I have seen job postings at local companies requiring as much as 15 years experience.

Its pretty stupid. This is the new way of hiring and there is no reason to believe that it will ever change. I wonder how much longer it will be before massive youth riots begin to occur.
