Hello,
Here is the situation:

2 offers on hand. Both are good. Both will require relocation.

Company 1 - few states away; no relocation is offered; benefits are good. Did not pay to fly to the interview.

Company 2 - across the country; no relocation is offered; benefits are also good. Paid for me to fly to the interview. Originally received rejection; however, a week later something happened to their 1st and they offered to the second (me). I know that they originally received 110 applications, but after 3 rounds, they only paid 2 candidates to report for face 2 face (myself incl).

I have asked both companies to think about it before giving offer acceptance. Need to give an answer to Co#2 by tomorrow evening. Can I respond saying that I have another offer on hand, and that the company 1 provides relocation? Maybe co#2 will add something to cover my move? Else they would need to go to people they have rejected on the phone interviews and fly them for f2f (that's just my opinion).

What do you guys think? I really like both companies; however, although relocation for co#2 will be 10 times higher than for #1, I want to minimize that expense.

Now is not the time to start lying to them. I would certainly ask them about relocation assistance, but I would not lie or make up a veiled threat about it. If they don't offer it, they don't offer it. Do you want the job or not?

^^^^ This.

Don't say anything about another offer. Tell whichever company you are most interested in that you are interested, but you were wondering if they provide relocation assistance. I am sure they have already thought about this, but they are waiting for you to ask. The last thing they want to do is offer to pay for something if they don't have to.

Just ask them in a very nice and professional manner. I have done it before, and I was very happy when they told me that they would cover all moving expenses.

I did ask initially, and they said that this position is not eligible for relocation assistance.

I just think they are able to do it, but don't want to....

This is no different than salary negotiation.

I change my answer. I would not ask again.

Being "able" to do it doesn't matter. There are probaly certain positons, such as CEO, CFO, various VPs, etc. in which they will pay relocation expenses, while for other positions they won't. If your position is in the "no" category, they are putting themselves in a bad situation if they pay for your move but didn't pay for the people before you, and don't pay for the people after you.
