I wasn't whining, just stating the facts.

A white, straight, single male, age 26, college graduate, with 20 years experience in the field(whatever that may be), that owns a vehicle no more than two years old, and has lived in the same place for at least five years.

None the less, they are one of those states where the owners are constently whining about a "skilled labor shortage". There is something of a shortage I'll admit, but in their case, it's because the available labor earns plenty more in the north, and has no reason to make the trip for what they will pay.
Wouldn't it make sense to relocate where there is work, make an honest living and get experience, and then move on to greener pastures in a few years than sit around having a pity party because you can't get a job?

By the way, there are a ton of certified welding jobs in central NJ all of a sudden as well. Cost of living there is pretty high, not sure how they pay.

I think the point that Trackwatch was trying to make is that the "ideal" candidate does not exist, and employers will find fault with every candidate, and when whine that they can't find enough good employees. If a 26 year old white male applies for a job, he won't get hired due to lack of experience (or for affirmative action requirements). If someone with 20 years of experience applies for a job, he won't get hired since he's too old and out of touch with recent changes.

What employers want is someone who has the 20 years of experience, but is only 26, which obviously cannot exist. So employers need to just suck it up and either hire the 26 year old white male, and maybe give him some training, or hire the person with 20 years of experience, and accept that he/she is going to be older than 26. But the people who are in hiring positions are so used to getting their way, they are unwilling to compromise. So the complain, and the economy just gets worse and worse.

Keeper--are they CERTIFIED welders? There's a big government contract about to be awarded, actually three of them. One will likely go to a company in southern CA, and two to companies in either MI, IL, or IN. Either way, they will need to hire more certified welders for these projects--they are over $120M in federally funded work over the next 2-3 years with 100% of the funding already in place and no reason to think these contracts will not be completed.

If your grands are CERTIFIED and interested in relocating, let me know and I'll be happy to PM you the names of the companies that will be looking to hire the minute I hear about an award.
