The post office lost 5.2 billion in last reported quarter. Fedex made $438 million. That's a difference of $5.6 billion spread.

How much of the Post Office loss can be attributed to having to follow pension and healthcare funding no other business has to?

No, I don't work for the PO nor do any of my relatives. I just have dealt with all three major players, USPS, UPS and FedEX, in the industry and the Post Office comes in first in cost and delivery promptness followed by UPS. FedEX comes in a very distant 3rd, tied with the Pony Express and the heliograph.

Too bad for those people in Maryland. Maybe someday they will realize how much more efficient it is to do it online.

Businesses only charge a convenience fee if you are paying your bill late. I pay zero fees for paying bills online, and I pay everything online.

Which have been common knowledge for, oh, a couple decades now. With the warnings coming every year from the Board of Governors. Which were ignored by successive Administrations and Congresses.

Well I never pay a bill late and still get assessed a "convenience fee" for paying online.

Let's see now:

State of MD income tax filing: $20
Macy's: $10
Municipal Water and Sewer: $5
BGE: 5% of bill
Subaru Motors: $15
Oil company: $10
Citgo and other gas cards: 2% of bill
Mortgage: $10 (that's assessed on automatic payments from checking, also)
County tax bill: $15
Hunting/fishing licenses: $2

These are not late charges but convenience fees.

yeah verse discrimination, they should keep all the black, fire all the white.

Why can't the black middle class work in the private sector? They already get plenty of grants and aid to educate themselves. Is it any less unfortunate that many Caucasian, Latino, or Asian postal workers might be affected? Is it the tax payers job to waste money to guarantee a job for government workers? Should we also expect private sector companies to go bankrupt to guarantee jobs?

Let's take it a step further... How can private sector companies compete with foreign competition when they are expected to fund inefficient operations like the post office? Won't that cost far more jobs in the private sector?

The private sector in this country has been doing everything possible to adapt in these difficult times. Time the government sector does their part.
