Ha, I had something similar happen to me. I put in my two week notice and on my last day of work, my supervisor called me and told me that I "may be terminated" if they couldn't find someone to take my place that day. She went on to say that if they couldn't find someone to take my place I would have to come in. Makes no sense whatsoever. Of course it's for their convenience. They don't care about anyone but themselves.

Eh, that makes no sense. They can't fire you on your last day after you have given notice. You are not their slave. I would have laughed at them. I've heard some bizarre things, but this ranks near the top.

Why not? You are still employed (and paid) by them on that last day, aren't you? I think it's silly to expect a whole lot of production on your last day but that's the employer's prerogative.

LOL

I once quit and gave 2 weeks notice at a retail position. I was one of the managers. I was not planning to go out of town for Thanksgiving, and even though my notice was up the Tuesday before, I said I would do the company a favor and make Black Friday my last day. The store manager tried to schedule me to work until 2am...and act as the closing manager. I said I was not working that shift. She said that was when she needed me. I told her that I guess my 2 weeks notice does end on Tuesday (I was smart enough to put the dates in the notice and also put in there that I would be open to working Black Friday if there was a mutually agreeable shift available). Not surprisingly, I worked a perfectly reasonable 9-5:30 shift.
