That isn't the purpose of corporations. The purpose is to raise the stock price for me (and you) the shareholders.

You're [collectively, the American worker) making plenty of money - it's just you spend more than you make via iphones, starbucks, leasing cars, 200 cable channels, credit card balances, student loans, fancy rims, HELOCs, fancy clothes, etc

Right, cause paying for luxuries like rent, electricity, food and heat is just so inconvenient

Ninety nine point nine percent of people can find a job to pay for these basic necessities.

No a significant part of our population (even those working) would be in danger of starving, being homeless, or dying without medical treatment if social safety nets like food stamps, section 8, and medicaid didn't suppliment their earnings.

That's going to be shocking news to the millions of illegal aliens who sneak over the borders to work for $8/hr picking crops, busing tables, and washing cars and have no problem eating, sleeping, or owning a car.

'Bosses from hell' are giving U.S. workers the Monday blues. Gallup's 2013 State of the American Workplace report had grim findings, including that 70% of those surveyed either hate work or are completely disengaged, and perks don't help.

I wonder if this is because most employers keep certain information about the job private until you actually start?

If corporations paid their employers better and treated them better, they would be more productive and they would have more consistency. Instead, they attempt to pay the lowest amount and attempt to bully the employee into production. If your workforce is unhappy, they will attempt to get over more often.
And although your assessment that I make plenty of money but overspend on unneccessary items may be true for many, it does not for me. I have lived a somewhat frugral lifestyle trying to get ahead and get out of Texas.

I don't have cable or satellite
I don't have any credit cards or credit card debt
I don't go to starbucks or purchase coffee, I make my own
I don't own an iphone, my cell plan is month to month @ $40/month (sometimes less) - through TING. My phone is over 2 years old. I do not own any ipads or any of the lastest technology.
I don't have fancy rims or even a fancy car, I drive a 2008 toyota with no after market accessories.
I wear clothes purchased from places like Target, no name brands other than shoes. My nikes were purchased in 2009, my doc martens purchased in 2011. I get much better mileage out of name brand shoes than cheapos.
I cook, don't eat out. but to eat somewhat moderately healthy, I spend around 300 a month to do so. I don't have sodas in my house. No cookies, candy or chips.
Electric bill in north texas, summer? nearly $200 for a 400sq ft apmt.
Rent + water + required renters ins in the ghetto? $600
Student loans $110/mon
car insurance with no accidents, no tickets, single and over 35, still pay $105/mon
medical insurance / dental insurance / eye insurance = $200+ a month

Crap add's up fast. Despite not having the lastest or greatest of anything and minimal debt, I don't have much to show for it thanks Medical bills and medical insurance. Carrying medical ins in this day and age is a financial strain that doesn't really pay off. I had tumor removed and despite paying $190/month for medical insurance, still got hit with 10K out of pocket. Needless to say it has put a huge strain on me.

yea because $8/hour is better than $0.33 per hour back home. Also If you can save even a small fraction of that $8 per hour and send it back home by living 8 people in a 1 bedroom apartment and eating ramen that can go a significant way in Guatemala where the cost of living is very cheap. $8/hour part time will not get you food, shelter, clothing, and transportation in most places in the USA, particularly cities, as a single let alone if you have children.

It's not about that because staying at job you truly hate is not good for your health.

Who wants to work at a grocery store and make 11 bucks an an hour? Lots of people have too. Manufacturing jobs at 10 bucks an hour? Blah. I'm lucky to make 20 bucks and hour and have a secure job. In fact lots of people where I work don't know how good they have it and kind of take advantage of things a little too much in my opinion.

System needs to crash and be reset... we built this current economic situation by a strong dollar and easy credit, and we are sustaining it by more and more credit injecting... we need a weak currency to encourage industry and make ourselves competitive... a fully universal health care system regulated to reduce the ridiculous cost of prescription drugs and medical procedures, to offload the burden from employers to provide health care, and finally, a reformed tax system that is simple and easy to use... but all this will never happen... we seem to pride ourselves in over complicating the system so nobody can understand it, and creating lots of paper pushing jobs to 'fix' that problem... excessive paperwork is the norm ...

$11 an hour is a grocery store wage
