My aunt says it doesn't matter if I have a ton of experience or no experience at all. This is my job history.
1 week at Hot Topic in 2007 quit
1 month at Borders Books in 2011 quit
All other experience has been in the freelance field as a writer and photographer. Currently working for
Revolver Magazine - 2 years for FREE
Metal Maniacs Magazine - 5 years for FREE
All Access Magazine - 6 years for FREE
So my aunt says even with this experience I can find work. Trust me I have applied to Target, McDonalds, Hot Topic, Toys R Us, and other Craigslist jobs.
But unable to find a solid place to work. Is she right about being able to find work with no experience in that it doesn't matter?
You should probably stop quitting every job you get...
That said, places like Mcdonalds or Toys R Us pay at or around minimum wage. They are not expecting much, so I am sure you could get hired and keep the job, provided you show up and put in at least a minimal effort.

I agree with xinsx that the very short term jobs are worse than none on a resume. Your freelance experience is not applicable to the kind of jobs you are looking for. Most of them don't require experience but they are now getting people with experience applying, so you have to convince them that you want the job, and are eager to learn.
Assuming you are older than 18, my question as a potential employer is why do you have five weeks (or no) paid work experience in the last six years? What have you been doing and how did you support yourself?
First off, nice troll response or response for a troll. Judging by post counts it is the former, rather than the later. Second off, it isn't for everyone as they are pretty tight weight-to-height wise, mental health wise and general fitness wise. Not everyone is cut out for it, physically and mentally. And we aren't even getting into "being away from mommy and daddy" issues. The only standing is that the military is one of a few places where experience doesn't matter for bottom of the barrel, low on the totem slots. Unless you become career, typically it doesn't work out. Just look at returning veteran unemployment rates...

The freelance stuff should have some weight particularly if person is familiar with the magazines. I know Revolver is a heavy metal music based magazine, I would reasonably assume the same with Metal Maniacs as well and the All Access is another music based magazine (though not sure on the scene.) So if your boss is a metalhead (more likely at a Hot Topic) it would be somewhat of a good thing for work ethic and knowing the merchandise. I shop at Hot Topic and let me just say, it is a great store to talk to staff due to general love of fandoms and music. So seeing the OP is in that scene (why else would they freelance for three music magazines?) it is weird to hear you only lasted a week (unless it was a freak thing, insane boss (I know of that from my brother who his boss at one sports store wanted them to work at the place over going to community college classes (even for tests,)) family issues or transportation issues.)
I would say this poster is around age 22 or if they were 16 when they got the job at hot topic. So forseeably, the poster is in college, just finished or what-have you. That is a cover for why they may have had the break job wise (other than the freelance work.)
Now as for jobs, look into elance style jobs. It isn't for me but I know people who it has worked for. Just submit any samples from your submissions to the magazines and I am sure you will be golden.
some good posters have already spoken on this subject solid paid work experience is needed. move forward you can do it.
