A long time ago I worked for the Department of the Army as a civilian, and before that, I worked for the Department of the Navy as a civilian. Both were GS jobs. No different than any other civil service jobs, really.
No, I was forced not to work Friday's, my hours were cut from 40 to 32, being that my salary was entry level and in a large expensive city I decided to leave. I only served one furlough day and then left for a new job in the private world. The furlough lasted about 3 months, but everyone received back pay. When I was furloughed they told me they had no idea how long it was going to last and that it might end in people receiving RIF notices, I wasn't going to wait around for that. Fortunately for everyone else it turned out to be okay. I don't miss gov't work for a second.
