Well they pay poverty wages that make the employees get government subsidies if they are smart. What do they expect? Who even shops in retail stores anymore?

Only 2/3" Seems like they should all be worried about it. Retailers are not making their money off of the people that work for them or similar low/minimum wage jobs. They are more worried about the middle class $70-100k income people and the rich that have some disposable income, and when that disposable income levels off or drops due to cost of living increase without a raise, they are going to get nervous. The biggest profits come from people buying things they want but don't need. Even the fast-food employee will find a way to buy a nice 40" HDTV. The retailers are looking for the people that buy a 70" and then a few 46-50" for the kids bedrooms and the den. Paying the employees more won't help, it will cut into their profit while not adding much to it.
How else will people be able to buy the good/services they want/need?

Except for groceries and the occasional trip to Home Depot for minor stuff we buy everything on Amazon. It's delivered right to the door and it's 100% of the time less expensive than to buy it at a retail store.

If you raise wages then the prices for the goods and services that the employees with the now higher wages provide go up. This leaves the employees with higher wages, but also having to pay higher prices, effectively negating the effect of wage increase on disposable income.

Then why are they complaining in the first place? It's a chicken and egg deal.

I still do for most non-specialty items. Plus it gets me out of the house.
