Get a job at the post office, the phone company or the power company. After 3 years you should be close to that amount.

I know nurses that make $70,000 a year that are sharing a condo or home just to make it. Houses in our area range from $500,000 to $3,500,000 on the beach.

One of the reasons that my wife and I are taking our kids to Arizona. I will have to cut back my income to $70,000 or so, but will be able to buy a home. We are having a home built in Surprise, Arizona. The homes in Surprise are a bargain starting around $150,000 or so.
I do not know why professionals would choose to live in California. I would not live in a place where buying a home would never become a possibility for me. Is the great weather and the beach worth that? You can live in a place where the weather is fairly good most of the year and drive 4 hours to a beach for much less. Places like the Carolinas, Georgia and north Florida where we have only 2 months of winter which is not too cold and beaches are only a few hours away.

Are you kidding??? A 50k salary? For some of us it takes almost 2 years to make that! and here I thought my 30k a year job paid well......

Thing is, I'm not all that worried about money.
I'm single and I live VERY simply, but I also don't have ANY debt. Period.
I do not spend money unless I know I can back it up with cash.
If i break my leg or something between now and the time I can get health insurance, then I might be a little more screwed, but otherwise I'm fine.

What is the problem here.5 weeks i assume vacation is good.Is this starting vacation or do you have many years with the company already.15 days sick and st/lt disability makes up for the money you will not receive.Poverty level no,depends on where you live. How many hours a week expected to work? It's still a good start, work and move on to a higher salary whenever you get the opportunity. Many nice places to live is or becoming two person income to survive.

50K would be pretty decent money if you lived in a van down by the river...

Wow - you must live in a high rent district. Is it the van or the river front property that costs so much?

BTW: Congrats on your OS card!

For me I have spent my life in this sleepy little town on the coast. Born and raised in the area. we are moving to a sunny local that we can afford though in Arizona. Still the beach is that important for me. I love looking from the hospital where I work at the ocean every day. I love looking out at the Channel Islands and seeing the ships as they pass by. It will be a 6 and a half hour drive to return by car. But then my other car is an airplane and it can get me back to the beach in a couple hours. Life is good.

I lived in Chicago for a lot less than $50,000, and I was just fine.
