I sincerely hope so as well. Poor wages lead to poor quality. Crap in, crap out, all day long. We need to restore pride in workmanship, and pride in one's job, whatever they may be. You can't reasonably expect someone to give a damn if they do not have the means to support themselves outside of the workplace.

FWIW, the company I work at starts everyone out at least at 18 bucks an hour, regardless of experience. They also provide excellent incentive bonuses as a means of retaining high quality, highly productive workers. Many others are changing their ways due to the shortage of competent and dependable labor. Companies have to act smarter, otherwise they will be done away with.
They got any places in or close to Boston, MA?

not if companies demand it and refuse to pay any more for it in the case with chemistry. Don't invest in something without any ROI.

And a large amount of debt to join a pool of millions of people with degrees that are working in retail and fast food. Everyone has a degree these days it does not guarantee anything but debt.

Factories in the detroit suburbs paying unskilled ppl $15/hr is certainly not the norm. take that from someone who has worked in over 30 places. $12/hr is more like it especially at a non union shop. If your lucky you might find a shop to teach you a skill but you will most likely have to find a new job to get paid better as most shops don't like to give appropriate raises.

$12/hr is the norm at crap shacks dying the slow death. Anyone foolish enough to surround themselves with the idiocy that goes on in those places will only be held down.

I'm not sure where you're seeing all these decent paying factory jobs... I'm in the rust belt and they're certainly not here. That's why it's called the rust belt. When I look just for kicks at different jobs within 300 miles of me most of the factory jobs I see are sweat shop assembly jobs that pay like 10 bucks an hour and on top of that they want experience, lol. Hell I'd rather work at Wal-Mart if I had to choose between the two. I think you're talking about the right-to-work southern states that's where most of the better paying manufacturing that are left in the US went.

Yep well said.. Problem is they care more about their pocket books than providing a decent wage. I always belive in pay what you get. so if you pay me 7 bucks a hour knowing the skill set and the work is worth 16, than im going to not give a damn about the quality of the product. I have a motto and it serves me well, pay me trash, your going to get trash, pay me well, than you get quality product and work. If i cant afford the food or the item i am making for you, than your not paying me enough.

Stop perpetuating that myth. Education does not automatically come with debt. Exhaust all free grants and then get a job and pay cash. It may take longer, but no debt. Debt is always a choice.
