3 hours of commute per day in traffic? I'd just shoot myself. I wish I could live right next to my work place and save that 3 hours for something more enjoyable.

I did this for a year, mine was just about an hour commute. If I would have loved the job I might have lasted longer. I second the idea of trying to find a place near your work where you can crash once or twice a week. You can still take stuff back and forth, I doubt they need everything moving between sites within a day but I don't know. Heck even just doing that once or twice a month might make a difference...on those days where you really don't want to make the drive back.

Milage might be paying for gas, but I doubt it is covering wear and tear on your vehicle. Something to consider.

In the mean time download some podcast and listen to them on your way to and from. Might pass the time if you aren't doing that already. Religious, stuff on your hobbies, funny stuff, there is some pretty entertaining/interesting stuff out there.

Good luck.

Warren Buffett says he can buy anything except time. His office is 5 minutes from his house.

I agree with him. I don't think long commutes are ever worth it.

Just move. Or at the very least take a train/bus.

I understand the frustration OP!

I spent a year commuting about 65 miles each way, then we moved too far to commute so I quit (we moved 3.5 hours away).

Then I ended up with a 90 mile each way commute like you a couple of years later. I lasted 6 months on this commute (originally it was a shorter commute and then we moved again due to my husband's job).

I felt like all I did was drive and I was miserable. I felt like I had no life or energy after work. I have told my husband if we move again, I will not be commuting more than 45 minutes each way. It sucked the life out of me! I used podcasts and audio books, and drank way too much coffee.

Kudos to you guys that can handle the commute, I just can't!

I currently have over an hour commute. I live in NYC so it's fairly common since most good jobs are in the city and its cheaper to live further away from Manhattan. I HATE the commute. I waste so much of my life waiting for trains, stuck underground, or just generally miserable being stuck in a smelly cramped car. But hey, the pay is good and I like where I live.

I am not taking this thread seriously. It has all the hallmarks of a drive by.

More like 4 hours a day. You aren't going to do a 90 mile commute in an hour and a half.

Except it's not about him or you; the OP said it takes about 1.5 hours each way. The OP also said there are work obligations on the way so it would be interesting to see exactly what the time schedule is and what is the compensation for the travel expenses.
