No, my company is a fortune 10 company and it is a working day for me. Most people will take the day off and use PTO hours or just work from home remotely as opposed to reporting to the office. Same thing happens if Christmas is on a Thursday or Tuesday. Monday and Friday are workdays.

Wife works at Ft Sam for the Army. Friday is a minimal manning day but not a free day off. Bottom line she took leave Friday or would have had to go to work.

Where I used to work in IT, the 5th would have been a working day despite the 4th of July being on a Thursday. The 4th would have also been a working day for most workers who were "working smart", as well as the weekend of the 6th and 7th. Oh my, "pleasant" memories of working for companies that had a lot of work to do and where a lot was expected from their employees. Quite wacky.
