I hope this isn't the wrong place to ask this.

Is your business or place of employment giving employees July 5th off since the 4th is on a Thursday so they don't have to come in for only 1 day before the weekend?

If so, are you giving/getting a "free" holiday day off, or are you asking that they check in during the day by checking email/texts/voicemail and responding to any important things that arise (not day to day tasks).

Thanks!

No, my company is a fortune 10 company and it is a working day for me. Most people will take the day off and use PTO hours or just work from home remotely as opposed to reporting to the office. Same thing happens if Christmas is on a Thursday or Tuesday. Monday and Friday are workdays.

Small companies will usually give the day off paid.

Where I am at is going to be shut down on the 4th and 5th so I guess the 5th is a "free holiday".

We have early paid release on 7/3, off on 7/4, but we are required to be open on 7/5 because we cannot close when the stock market is open.

Wife works at Ft Sam for the Army. Friday is a minimal manning day but not a free day off. Bottom line she took leave Friday or would have had to go to work.

All of my clients were open on Friday 7/5. They only closed for July 4.

Where I used to work in IT, the 5th would have been a working day despite the 4th of July being on a Thursday. The 4th would have also been a working day for most workers who were "working smart", as well as the weekend of the 6th and 7th. Oh my, "pleasant" memories of working for companies that had a lot of work to do and where a lot was expected from their employees. Quite wacky.
