In my department they refuse to bring in any entry level talent. Managers here are not in the sense that they are actually required to manage people but more so manage bandwidth. (There is no Junior talent to nurture after all) So for the time being I think I'm safe in that regard. But most companies are the opposite. They have a bunch of middle managers running around that can't or have never done the job and then recent grads who have no clue what's going on.

I didn't get one position I was looking for as they hired someone with about 5-7 years more experience and probably double the pay rate. Basically 2 or 3 steps higher than the original JD indicated.
Unfortunately in all but the most structured F500's (and even then) you have no clue how a position scope will end up. But I know for sure he was connected in some way with the hiring manager, so it's the buddy system either way.
