Also employment benefits have been extended and you can apply online in most states or via phone. The days of going in and waiting forever are over. You can apply the day you get the layoff letter.

I have collected unemployment a few times. It is easy money. In most states you can work part time or do temp jobs for a traditional organization and it will not impact your unemployment check unless you make over $100.

I also did odd jobs off the books for cash (underground economy) and made almost as much with my unemployment check as I did when I was making $50K a year. No SS taken out of your unemployment check.
