Let's say you normally work part time on Fridays (4-5 hrs) but are told by your supervisor to take the day off due to lack of work. You worked on one of your days off, so overall, you worked the same # of hrs that week as usual. Now imagine HR sent out an email earlier in the week indicating there was a meeting with the head office and we were all invited. The company's been going through a lot of changes lately and was recently merged with a new parent. They say there will be a pizza lunch served afterwards.

Would you:

A: Insist on going to the meeting and get paid for it, so go to the office for 90 mins and have the pizza lunch, then add 1.5 hrs to your time sheet

B: Given the option, connect to the meeting remotely and skip the lunch, adding 60 mins to the time sheet

C: Connect remotely and don't indicate anything on your time sheet, essentially listening to the meeting for free, using your net or phone connection.
--------

Since my supervisor told me there's no work for me on Friday (other team mates are there), there's not much point to show up for the meeting. Even though I didn't check whether I could indicate the time spent (attending the meeting remotely) on my time sheet, I'm leaning towards choosing option B. What would you do?

Definitely go. If you are going through big changes do you want to be that guy who didn't show and they now think is a slacker?

In Option C, is the remote connection from your home, or not at work, and on your own time? In other words, you are tuned in, not paid, and you don't have to commute in, and it your management is aware that you are participating? If so, then this might be the best option. You can be doing just about anything else anyway, even sitting on the beach.

You can also sort of even the score later; so what that they ask for an hour - you can even it up later, or maybe a little more than even.

As the Russians did entering Germany towards the end of WWII:
Not
"An Eye for an Eye'
but rather
"Two Eyes for an Eye."

Thanks for the input. I ended up choosing B and will be submitting my time sheet with this detail next week. Attending a meeting, remotely or in person, requires me to devote my time to listening to work related matters. As they say, time is money.

I guess I should have mentioned it in my OP, but my supervisor suggested I take the day off and so I offered to connect to the meeting remotely.

Um, in "Healthcare" (hospital employment specifically) the meetings are usually done outside of "working" hours...
