Where in Europe and what type of nightlife are you looking for? It varies widely by country.

From the places i have been to... I like the US better.
More single women (as far as i could see), more racially mixed, more hip hop music but also more expensive (well at least in NYC, Atlanta and Miami).

I still take Asian nightlife over both!
F-M ratio there is the best and there is no agressive vibe if you know what i mean just everyone is having a good time.

But I don't like hip-hop so I would prefer Europe, I love my trance music on a night out!

It really seems like European nightlife is better than nightlife in the USA.

In the USA, there is still some decent nightlife in New York City, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle, and Honolulu.

I lived in both New York City and Seattle.
New York City has Terminal 5, The Cake Shop, and Cozy Hookah lounge which are good nightlife places. Seattle has Trinity nightclub, El Corazon, The High Dive, and Club Static Hookah Lounge which are also good nightlife places.

However, Europe just seems to have many more options in many more places, much more high quality stuff with less of the lower quality stuff in the way, much more laid back and easygoing, and open much later.

Europe has Paris, Berlin, Madrid, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Stockholm, Copenhagen, London, Rome, Zurich, Brussels, Moscow, Edinburgh, Prague, Saint Petersburg, Oslo, and Reykjavik where a ton of great nightlife can be found.

Also, plenty of the smaller cities/towns in Europe seem to have great nightlife as well. I even had good nightlife experiences on the Black Sea Coastline cities/towns of Romania (Constanta/Mamaia, Eforie Sud, Costenesti) for one example.

I think this is true with Asian nightlife as well with it being better than USA nightlife and almost as good as European nightlife.

But then again the USA is only one country vs. the 50 countries in Europe and also 48 countries in Asia.

If you're talking about Thailand I'm sure you know why the F-M ratio is like that. But yeah the travellers from other countries are in party mode and more willing to let go than they would in their own countries. Holiday mode.

Europe nightlife is generally better because:

(a) the establishments stay open later. You can stay at the bar until 2am, hit the clubs at 3am, and finish off after sunset. I was surprised that a lot of clubs in the US shut at 2-3am! Is this the US or Communist Russia?

(b) European cities have more vibrant street-life and don't feel as unsafe in general (depending on country) as a lot of American cities. Fewer gang-bangers, shady types.

(c) You don't need a car to get everyhere in Europe.

(d) More attractive, open women in Europe.

Cons for Europe: more expensive than the US...maybe not as good if you like urban/hip-hop music.

Yeah, in general, that's pretty much it. However, having been to a few clubs and bars over here in LA, NY and Miami, I actually think it's more expensive than in the UK in particular.

I don't like that many nightlife spots are often only accessible by car over here and as a result, a lot of people drive drunk rather than take a cab.

It's ultimately a difference in culture and urban layouts though. Speaking generally, most nightlife in European towns and cities is located centrally, whereas it's more spread out in the US.

Europe has a lot of cities that are world famous for their nightlife. With the exception of NY, LA and Miami, US cities generally don't offer as much variety, but the hip hop scene is definitely superior if you're into that.

Difference in culture though. I have found that after their college years, not many people go pubbing or clubbing. There are definitely fewer opportunities to socialise. Americans tend to stay home more, in my experience.

Brits in particular tend to binge drink. Past college, that doesn't happen so much over here, not even in New York.

It's just a different culture...not better or worse, just different.
