Hippos are on average much, much heavier than Nile crocs. An average hippo weighs around 1,500 kg., while Nile crocs average some 250 kg. Yes, an exceptionally large croc can be as heavy as an unusually small adult female hippo, but that's it.

As we are talking about animals, Australia/Oceania is the only continent in which the largest native land mammal is bipedal - the red kangaroo.

It's also the only continent in which the largest native land mammal is a marsupial, and how did marsupials reach Australia? They came from South America across Antarctica when land bridges connected the three landmasses around 50 million years ago and Earth was much warmer than today, hence no ice sheets in Antarctica.

My source said salt-water crocs, the most dangerous, run up to 1,200 kg.

Saltwater crocodiles can grow up to that size, but they don’t share the same range as hippopotamus.

Ask Google for the world/s largest peninsula. No responses ever mention Weatern Europe, but insist the Arabian is larger. Draw a line from Gdansk to Odessa. Everything west of that istmus is the world's largest peninsula. Why isnt it recognized?

Most people consider it a continental landmass.

But it.s only about a quarter of Europe. Scabdinavia IS on the list of biggest peninsulas, and so is Iberia.

I guess there must be some kind of ratio between the width of the isthmus and size of the “peninsula”.

Is Western Africa a peninsula? What about Southern Africa? Or what about Eastern North America?

And why stop at Gdańsk-Odessa, why not Rostov-Arkhangelsk?

Would you consider Alaska to be a peninsula? Or a group of four peninsulas like Italy and Greece? Or just a part of a continental land mass?

Gdansk-to-Odess is very clearly a narrow "waist" that bulges out to a wider land mass. It's a narrower isthmus than Aqaba-Kuwait, connecting a larger land mass than Arabia.

No, Alaska is not a peninsula. A peninsula is a narrow strip of land mostly surrounded by water. Alaska is not a narrow strip of land.
