A home, family and or friends is all we need! We're all experiecing this great thing called "life" .... life in every country is a roller coaster with its ups and downs, here in usa i think its safe to say we are riding on a pretty crazy roller coaster but we're all just along for the ride and we gotta cherish those good thing we have.
In some places you can, but it is just not the same as the USA. Go visit some countries in Europe and you will see what I am talking about. Age and history are beautiful, but not always comfortable.
I've lived in Scotland for 12 years and on my annual visits to the US to see my family I am always struck by how all the modern homes look pretty much the same - no character - all the strip malls, etc.
I have a power shower, all modern conveniences, live in a comfortable home which happens to be 85 years old, have a sea loch out front, churches and buildings which are hundreds of years old, 5,000 year old megaliths, gorgeous scenery everywhere. In the US they knock down old buildings and build high rises and parking garages. Europe preserves its historical sites. I'll stay here.
Won't even mention the great health service, the humour, the friendliness, the open-minds, the lack of religious zealots, etc.

Scotland is beautiful. In my opinion the nicest people are the Welsh. They don't seem to have such a high opinion of themselves, and they go out of their way to make you feel welcome. As far as homes looking the same, come to the South and see our historic homes. Also, my scenery is the Gulf of Mexico, beautiful, powerful, and mysterious. I am glad you love Scotland, but I will stay in America.

I've only travelled to Wales once and I found them quite cold, so maybe not fair. Are you saying Scots have a high opinion of themselves (like Americans!)?
I lived in the south and I lived in New England, but the majority of homes in the US are boring. The Gulf is beautiful but I find Scotland much more beautiful than any place I've visited in the US, including Big Sur.

Nope I am not saying anything about Scots at all. SOME people on this forum seem to believe that anything European is better. I personally believe all places have great things to offer, and everyone should live where they prefer. If you love Scotland, more power to you. I don't have a high opinion of myself just because I am from America, but I think being proud of my country is a good thing. It is where I was born, and where I plan to stay, so it is a good thing I like it...don't you think?
I live in a city with plenty of old historic buildings and beautiful victorian homes everywhere and i don't have a high opinion about myself because i am from the united states.... seriously, whats up with the usa bashing on here its very childish.

I agree. Live and let live, and don't put down everyone else.

Aye it is. Thought maybe you were referring to Scots who are quite proud of their country. Being proud of your country is good but many Americans take it to extremes.

America does have a justifiable reputation around the world of being arrogant - I do think that saying it's the greatest country in the world as a fact, not opinion, is arrogant.
