This picture is wrong. Spain's empire was bigger than that, encompassing the entire western coast of South America, present day Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Chile. Of course Venezuela was colonized by Spain. That's why they speak Spanish today
every color on the map that isn't purple was claimed by Spain. Believe pink is disputed territory or shared. In the case of North America, the pink area was claimed by both Spain and Russia

No, I'm not talking about the Spanish Empire, I'm talking about the New Spain. The Spanish Empire was divided by different Viceroyalties. The New Spain, New Granada, Rio de Plata, Peru. etc.

Oh ok. In that case, answer is still yes but the light green was claimed by Russia as well. Believe most people recognized Spain's claims to be in the Vancouver Island and Fraser River Valley. North of that was Russian territory, but Spain also claimed that. They built a settlement in Alaska. Present day Valdez, AK. Doesn't sound very Russian or English, does it?

Wow yeah it doesn't. I think there's a place in British Colombia called Spanish fork or Spanish valley or something. I also wondered why Montana had a Spanish name.
So if you were to combine that map of the Spanish empire with the Portuguese empire, it must've been somewhat big. It was like England that the sun never set there.

Spain never really had much influence too far northward. Most of their land was given to the French who then sold it to the Americans in a short amount of time. The left over land then became an independent Mexico.
