No I would not rank the US highly in terms of best food. The US may have restaurants from every corner of the globe but in my experience the diversity of different world cuisine does not travel well...eg mainly one type of Indian restaurant is found, Peruvian restaurants tends to be mainly ceviche and other greatest hits, Jamaican restaurants are heavy on jerk etc
My ranking:
Best food overall: Peru, India
Best dessert/pastries: Italy, Germany, France
Freshness of food: Italy (except seafood)

USA has the best food in the world? that is a serious joke. Average at best! 90% of the restaurants are burger joints serving very poor quality food...

I miss the produce in California, was fresher than the stuff in Europe I find.

I find that in Europe I don't get consistency that I had with products from bakeries in California.

The food in france has gone downhill, sad to say it, the french owned bakery in SF was better than the ones where I have been in France!

Must have improved a lot, lived in California for 6 months, admittedly a good while back. Food was very average to say the least.

Does Europe have a single person equivalent to Andrew Zimmer or Anthony Bourdain? No, most would not set foot outside of the "civilized" world.

Where is the civilized world? Have you ever been backpacking around different parts of Asia? There's definitely quite a lot of Europeans.
