In the United States , California is considered by many the most desirable area to live in: it's coastal, it's beautiful, has amazing economic opportunities that draws people from around the country and world, has several important metros, and a high cost of living. It's also the most innovative state, home to most important tech companies as well as the entertainment industry. What are some areas analogous to California across the globe?
Minus the tech/innovation I'd say the south of France and parts of Spain (Barcelona, etc.) share geography, climate and high cost of living. Maybe Melbourne and Sydney too....
Size-wise, Sweden, Turkmenistan and Irak are slightly bigger, Vietnam, Japan and Zimbabwe slightly smaller, Paraguay,Uzbekistan, Cameroon ,Somalia (without Somaliland) and Morocco (without Western Sahara) have exactly the same size.
I haven't been to California but I've heard that Andalusia's topography and climate is very similar to some areas of Southern California (and Arizona).
Southern California has the same climate as Mediterranean countries.
Not exactly.
Mediterranean countries have humid and cold, but usually not freezing, winters. Olive trees, for example, need such winters, in order to actually produce olives. The middle interior of California comes closest to replicating the Mediterranean climate on a 12-month basis, but even the olives there are not, for the most part, olive oil quality, it produces table olives.
