Why doesn't America just buy the whole world and call it a day?

Americans in general are not moving in large numbers to Alaska. What makes anyone think that Greenland will have a different reality when it lies in the same latitude as Alaska and has a similar climate. OK, so Greenland is a little less mountainous than Alaska, but... If its exploiting its resources, lets keep in mind that American companies can do that right now in Greenland.

I don’t see any benefit for buying Greenland for the USA.

Secretary Seward explored the idea of buying Greenland back in the 1860s, and when we did buy Alaska it was called "Seward's Folly" and "Seward's Icebox".
Time has proven it was a good buy, much as the Louisiana Purchase. If the land is available, purchasing it seems much more civil than a military conquest like Russia is doing in the Ukraine.

It doesn't hurt to have ideas even if those with no vision deride you for thinking big.

Would it benefit the US to buy Greenland? Definitely. Would it benefit Greenland, mostly yes, but it would be a major adjustment.

If both sides decide to move forward, yeah I'd support it.

Greenland is an autonomous Danish territory, and the locals don't want to be part of any other country, they have their own Prime Minister and Parliament, and if anything are more liklely to become more independent rather than be sold to form part of another country.

Parliament of Greenland - Wikipedia

Prime Minister of Greenland - Wikipedia

Greenland's head of state is Margrethe II, Queen regnant of Denmark.

Margrethe II of Denmark - Wikipedia

The people of Greenland and the Danish have made it clear in no uncertain terms that Greenland is not up for sale, and never will be.

What next a US bid for Canada.

Are we assuming Denmark wants to sell it?

By the way, off-topic but given the subject, does it matter? A bit of trivia is that Denmark celebrates the USA's Independence Day/July 4th.

A group of Danish-Americans bought some land on the Jutland Peninsula at the beginning of the 20th century and donated to the Danish monarchy with the stipulation that a 4th of July celebration be held there every year.

Didn't the USA bought the US Virgin Islands from Denmark too?

The answer both Greenland and Denmark gave to this insanity was somewhere between no and hell no.

A bit off-topic, but Greenland is immensely worse than Alaska in that department. Climate is overall colder, especially summers, which are much more miserable, and even though mountains are not that high, average elevation is higher due to most of the territory being a +2 km ice sheet.
