If Greenland decides to join any country in the future rather than stay with Denmark, it will be Canada due to geographic proximity and close cultural ties with Canada's Inuit population.
Greenland is far better having a certain autonomy under Denmark. Doubt if Trump is doing much more than sounding off. Greenland is not for sale end off.
A group of Danish-Americans bought some land on the Jutland Peninsula at the beginning of the 20th century and donated to the Danish monarchy with the stipulation that a 4th of July celebration be held there every year.
I don't necessarily have a problem with the US annexing Greenland. It's a very strategic locale and it has vast untapped natural resources.
Two big problems: 1) Denmark isn't going to give up their share in Greenlandic natural resources and 2) Greenland isn't going to give up their generous Danish social programs, universal healthcare, free college education, etc for arbitrarily capped Medicaid funding and Medicare only for those aged over 65.
Now obviously we could make the natives leave when the Old Glory replaces the Dannebrog, but that's pushing our luck.
Since there have been reports of trump exploring the possibility of purchasing Greenland from Denmark, what are your views on the same?
I think it will be a very good idea for Americans to proceed. It will be part of the U.S. state of Maine or Alaska. Resources/funding will be poured into Greenland and it will prosper once again!
The Danes would be laughing all the way to the bank if they sold it because they all know the truth about it but the Danes aren't careless enough to sell it yet, if ever. If they sell it at all they'll wait until more of the ice has melted and the world's sea levels have risen some more and it's obvious that all of the sheet ice will melt. Then Greenland will be headed for extinction and that would be a good time for the Danes to bail out of it, and if they're really unscrupulous enough they'll sell it to anybody ignorant enough to buy it from them.
If Trump had any foresight he'd research the geology of Greenland and discover the truth about it and he would never offer to purchase it. Neither would anybody else who was considering it and did some proper research about the geology of it.
The Danes and geologists and the majority of other scientists who research such things know the truth, that the real, solid rock that the ice sits on top of is actually all below sea level. They know that Greenland isn't one big island, it's three islands joined by ice and that what presently sits above sea level is crushed, frozen rock (permafrost) that has been shaped by the elements and 1 - 2 miles high of sheet ice. They know that when all of the frozen permafrost gravel and sheet ice presently above sea level on Greenland has completely melted then Greenland will no longer exist, it will all disintegrate into crumbly pebbles and all of it will be below sea level then. All of it.
U.S. President Donald Trump said he has postponed a meeting with Danish Prime Minister Mette Fredericksen due to her lack of interest in his offer to purchase Greenland.
Frederiksen made it clear Greenland is not for sale, and called the idea of selling it to the United States "absurd."
....... "Greenland is not for sale. Greenland is not Danish. Greenland belongs to Greenland. I strongly hope that this is not meant seriously," Frederiksen told the newspaper Sermitsiaq during a visit to Greenland.

Now look, guys, I know our Declaration of Independence got rid of a monarchy, but maybe we could trade Trump for Queen Margrethe.
I fully recognise the difficulty thinking folk in your parts have with Trump. You have my sympathy. But hey, lets look at this realistically. Denmark besides being one of the biggest bacon produces in the world, has one of the most equal societies to boot. Perhaps forget size, I mean Greenland is hulking in comparison with Denmark, apply to become part of the Danish Kingdom instead. Benefits automatically part of EU as well as acquiring in time a language few others will understand.

Or perhaps have Canada sell Nunavut to Greenland once it eventually becomes independent. Can’t we have at least one country in the Americas run by natives with their native language, culture and customs still intact?
Greenland is not Danish? Ummm The Kingdom of Denmark sold the Virgin Islands to the US!
As already stated Greenland has it's own Parliament and PM and is autonomous, and it's not for sale.
It's the same with the Faroe Islands which are closer to the Scottish and Icelandic coasts than they are to Denmark.
Trump can please himself in terms of starting an argument with Denmark, and he should concentrate on nect years election rather than trying to cause problems with allies such as Denmark.
