I wouldn't play it as "cops going bad" - but generally good cops, good men who see no other way to solve the problem, then see it through. You can keep the personal drama very gritty and realistic without worrying too much about the fine points of how the actual operation would play in the real world. (It depends on whether you're writing character-driven or Tom Clancy operations-manual driven... )

But one or more of them would probably not be able to handle the aftermath; take it from there.

Okay thanks. The cops are not just angered by one gang member though, they blame the whole gang. They do not know which member killed the cop particularly, but no that the gang did as a group. So they want to go after all of them therefore, if that's okay.

I thought that the middle of town would be more exciting with civilians around and all, but I guess cops wouldn't risk that, right?
