Around Gillette in NE Wyoming it's still green. This has been a very unusual year for winter snow pack and for spring/early summer rains. I finally watered my lawn for the first time last week. Yes, it's very green in the country around here. The prairie grass looks more like mid-May than mid-July. My next-door neighbor owns a couple ranches, and as we were shooting the breeze over the fence last weekend he commented, "this is a great year to be a rancher."

I don't expect the green will last much longer, however.

Default Regarding Green

Almost anything, weather-wise, can happen in Wyoming at any time of the year. A wet year - or 10 wet years - can be followed by 25 years of drought, as the early Western settlers discovered. And a mild winter this year can turn into something from Siberia next year.

As for Sheridan, well, two of my favorite words about the place: The. Mint.

Can't agree more. Monte is an incredible owner/host at The Mint; my wife and I found him (and ElkHunter) to be the best sources of reliable information about the area.
