I'll second this--I accidentally "discovered" this show (Hell on Wheels) last week while browsing on Netflix. I decided to check it out and got hooked immediately. I watched the whole first season in a week, and am now DVR'ing the second season. Unfortunately, they're not airing the Season 2 Episode 1 for two more weeks--so I have to wait. I have to watch them in order!

Ay yi yi. A friend talked me into watching an episode of Longmire one evening.

I hate to think people in other parts of the country are going to add that refuse into their expectations and (mis)understanding of our state.

Was that the one where someone was growing huge amounts of pot in the Big Horn National Forest. I was really disappointed with that one, pure fantasy. I expected better from Craig Johnson.

Also several eposodes portray it being a short, 15 minute or so, drive from the Big Horn Mountains to the Wind River Indian Reservation. Those kinds of fictional shortcuts really spoil a show for anyone who knows the facts about the area.

Sheesh. It's entertainment on TV, not a documentary.

This to the generation that get their news from Comedy Central's Daly Show.

I, unfortunately, have to travel outside Wyoming some. I'm amazed at the questions people ask me about Wyoming based on what they've seen on fictional TV.

Excellent! Thanks so much for posting that. I've been wondering when, or even if, it was going to come out again. Looking forward to it.

For goodness sakes folks – this is a TV show based on a fictional town in a fictional county with fictional characters, which in turn is based on a fictional novel. To quote from a previous post I wrote on this forum last year:

“…Craig Johnson spoke to a small group of us last week at the monthly meeting of the Sheridan County Historical Society. He explained that early on in the first draft of the first book he had based the town on Buffalo and had mentioned something about turning onto to such-n-such street to get to a particular destination. A friend noted that it should have been the street after that. Craig said that in that moment he instantly made the decision that he would use a fictional town in a fictional county as he didn’t want to put up with such nonsense forever. The idea was to make a town small enough so that Walt would not have to deal with a local police department but large enough to have the amenities that you see on the TV show.

He also wanted to have the reservations close by. It was the TV producers who created the map whereby Sheridan County squeezed out Johnson County to the South and has Absaroka County bordering Montana with the fictional town close to the border to make it close to the reservations. Craig said that he had never really thought it out that far but it works.”

Those of you complaining that Longmire is not a documentary will be better served by the History channel.
