Address: 82 Bradford St.

Description: With the same owners as the Brass Key, the Crowne Pointe was originally built in the 19th century as a sea captain’s home. The property has undergone extensive renovations in the past decade, although it has not been enough to rid the place of ghost stories, including one of a man who has been spotted on surveillance cameras moving through the lobby late at night, according to the innkeepers. Ghosts aside, the inn’s many room types can accommodate a range of high-end tastes, including those looking to stay in the two-story Penthouse, complete with full kitchen, multiple flat-screen TVs, and a woodstove.

Description: This cozy little inn, opened in 1996, offers four rooms, one suite, and two adjacent cottages, all with private baths and nice touches such as flowers, 800-thread-count Egyptian cotton sheets, and framed photographs taken by one of the innkeepers. All have TVs with DVD players and refrigerators, and some have decks, either private or shared; the cottages are equipped with gas fireplaces. Our favorite is the wisteria-draped Koi Cottage, where a vaulted ceiling shelters a cozy loft with a futon and skylights. Sit for a while and watch the goldfish in the small koi pond. Innkeepers Lisa Feistel and Doreen Birdsell serve up a hearty continental breakfast and genuine hospitality. The inn is open year-round and does not accept children.
