Description: Sand beaches come in many shapes and sizes in Maine. This fine little strand isn’t a salty one on the coast in Damariscotta; rather, it’s on the very long lake of the same name. Drive Route 213 inland to the neat village of Jefferson, and you’ll find the big brown state park sign marking the entrance. The park itself is tiny—only 17 acres—but it’s very popular, especially with families. The swimming is good in the cul-de-sac of a lake, lifeguards are on duty to look after bathers, there are picnic tables and grills set up for après-dip dogs and burgers, and a field and playground provide a place for the kids to romp. Good, basic summer fun.
