Insider Pick:

Description: Bridgeport began in 1984 as the first microbrewery in town, producing 600 barrels per year. Now this groundbreaking, award-winning brewery produces more than 100,000 barrels each year. This picturesque brick-and-ivy brewpub is reminiscent of old German beer halls, especially the spacious upstairs, which is overflowing on the weekends. House standards such as Coho Pacific and Blue Heron are available, as well as cask-conditioned ales, which are naturally carbonated, unfiltered, and stored in kegs called firkins. Every Tues, brewers tap a firkin right on the bar for a fresh full-bodied taste direct from a gravity-fed spigot. Bridgeport offers a variety of British-style ales, including India Pale Ale, Extra Special Bitter, Black Strap Stout, and Porter conditioned in a bottle, keg, or firkin cask. The flagship ale is Blue Heron Amber Ale, brewed in honor of Portland’s official city bird. Bridgeport also serves up a fine pizza, with dough made fresh daily from unfermented beer wort.
