Description: A bit farther down the South Carolina coast is Hilton Head Island, a posh enclave known for its outstanding collection of courses. The best of which is generally considered to be Harbour Town Golf Links. When it opened in 1969, the course’s small greens, railroad tie–supported bunkers, and tight fairways were considered radical. Today, professionals rave about the course at the Heritage Classic held here each spring, especially the approach shot to the 18th green, a forced-carry over a marsh with the famed lighthouse in the backdrop.
