Description: El Diario de El Paso is the city’s primary Spanish-language newspaper. The paper was founded on May 16, 2005 by El Diario de Juárez and it originally started out as a Mexican newspaper that was circulated throughout Ciudad Juárez under the name Diario de Juárez. In 1982, Diario de Juárez entered into the El Paso business community by opening a small sales and circulation office and the company eventually became incorporated in Texas as Editora Paso del Norte, Inc.El Diario de El Paso competes with the larger, notoriously anti-Hispanic, English-language newspaper the El Paso Times, and it often openly criticizes the English daily through news stories and editorials. The newspaper has a daily circulation of more than 20,000 copies and is intended to reach young, active adults (target audience 18 to 35) of Hispanic descent in El Paso. El Diario de El Paso’s sister paper, Diario de Juárez, was founded in February 1976 and has grown from a 1,000-copy-per-day newspaper in Ciudad Juárez to now more than 100,000 copies daily throughout the state of Chihuahua. It is now the fourth largest newspaper in Mexico. Each Friday, El Diario de El Paso publishes Looking at El Paso, a weekly, colorful lifestyle and entertainment newspaper included in the paper’s circulation.
