Description: Hampton’s public park, Sandy Bottom Nature Park, on Big Bethel Road, has 456 acres of woodland, two lakes, play and picnic areas, walking and interpretive trails, a wildlife area, nature center, paddleboats, and concessions. Built almost entirely by volunteers, this park has room for overnight guests, too. There also are two primitive group sites (popular with Boy Scout troops) and four tent cabins. The park also offers environmental education programs and special programming in astronomy, wildlife observation, and environmental field-testing. To get to the park, take exit 261A off I-64 and follow Hampton Roads Center Parkway to Big Bethel Road. The park entrance will be on your left. Admission to the park is free.
