Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad

Train lovers and those who love feeling as if they have stepped back in history will love a trip to the Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad in Fish Camp, California. The sounds and sights of the steam engine era come alive when you visit this destination in the Sierra National Forest. The Madera Sugar Pine Lumber Company was in operation from 1899 until 1931. There is a portion of this original track that has been restored and runs today as it did at the turn of the 20th century. There are two vintage Shay steam locomotives in use so visitors can experience a true to life, hands on experience. The locomotive weighs 60 tons and is the heaviest narrow gauge locomotive in use today. In addition to the Shay locomotive, visitors also get to experience Jenny Railcars and a Logger Steam Train. The Moonlight Special event offers visitors a chance to enjoy the railroad and dine on a barbecue steak dinner, enjoy music by the Sugar Pine Singers, and take in the beautiful scenery in the canyon. The Melodrama Evening features a ride and a performance by the Sugar Pine Singers, as well as a barbecue dinner. The site also hosts group excursions and field rips to the railroad.
