Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Takeaways From Another Stop At Buc-ee's

Posted 10-08-2023 at 07:10 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

This was just spur-of-the-moment on one of my days off from work. Did some driving around on a whim after meeting with a group from church for lunch. And that's another blog post right there, but let's first deal with what's really on my mind.

Along the way, I stopped at Buc-ee's in Melissa, Texas, and as anyone would expect on a Sunday afternoon (or any weekend afternoon), the parking lot and the gas islands were full of cars. I parked in one of the furthest-away...

Another Office Chair Is In The Offing For The Case Abode

Posted 10-05-2023 at 08:12 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

When the office chair you sit in begins sinking, you know something's not right. You know it.

So, when your writer made this discovery not very long ago, all he had to do was put it aside until an opportunity arose to go and get a new office chair for that computer station at home. I'm going to.................., and that will be next week. Hydraulics in chairs can only hold so much weight for so long, and then they would just give out. Such was the case for...

Suddenly, There's A Big Party Going On In The Astros' Clubhouse

Posted 10-02-2023 at 12:20 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Baseball fans have wondered if the following clip below was even going to happen. The Houston Astros didn't spend a lot of time in first place in the American League West. Such was the case for a big chunk of the regular season in 2023.

Fast-forward to the last week of September.

It didn't look good for a week and a half, as they struggled at home against two last-place teams before taking to the road (where they've actually performed better) and needed...

Might Be Some New Construction On A Third New Water Tower In Lubbock

Posted 09-24-2023 at 08:02 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

This was something I noticed on Google Street View that looked intriguing. Although you can see activity from on top, you won't have any of the latest frames from street level reflecting it.

A few moons ago, we talked on Case's Column about the city of Lubbock replacing their old water-pumping equipment with fresh new towers. Their plan was to build five in the next five to seven years. Previously, two had already been built, one on 50th Street and another on Milwaukee...

We've Got Another Hump Day Upon Us

Posted 09-20-2023 at 07:26 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Wednesdays are special. It's the middle of the week. We're right between the weekends, and sometimes, we all need to just take pause.

After all, you've got Monday behind you. For some people, it's a pain in the backside, but for me, Mondays are a day off from work. It's not quite Friday, but you have something to look forward to, if for no other reason than to pop a top on your favorite beverage in celebration, and at your favorite dive. Right now,...
